Est. 2006 · San Francisco
A Florentine tradition, rooted in Hayes Valley. Eighteen years of restoring the pieces that matter most.
Our Story
In 2006, master cobbler Marco Valenti arrived in San Francisco with twenty years of training under the finest ateliers in Florence. Having spent two decades honing his craft on the leather benches of Italy — learning Goodyear welt construction, traditional bark-tanning, and hand-lasted techniques passed down through generations — Marco recognized something the city lacked: a place where people could bring their most beloved leather pieces and receive the care they truly deserved.
He opened a small studio in Hayes Valley with three workbenches, a collection of hand tools, and a simple belief: quality leather is meant to last a lifetime. Word spread quickly. Within a year, the waiting list stretched weeks. Within five, Atelier Patina had become the go-to name for discerning clients throughout the Bay Area.
Today, our atelier employs a small team of master craftsmen, each trained personally by Marco in the European tradition. We remain small by design — because great restoration cannot be rushed, and every piece we touch deserves our complete attention.
Begin Your RestorationWhat We Stand For
Three principles guide every piece that passes through our doors — from a worn wallet to a hand-lasted boot.
We use only heritage techniques and premium materials. Every sole is hand-stitched. Every edge is burnished by hand. There are no shortcuts in our atelier — only the right way, done at the right pace.
We believe a well-made leather piece should last decades, not seasons. Our restorations are not patches — they are investments in longevity. We restore pieces so they can be passed to the next generation.
Every piece we restore is one less piece in landfill. Leather production has an environmental cost — the most sustainable thing you can do is restore what you already own. We are proud to make that choice easy.
